A ceremony to honor young science and technology talents was jointly held recently in Hanoi by the Ho Chi Minh Youth Union and the Ministry of Science and Technology. 141 young scientists were praised for their outstanding achievements, with ten honored to receive the technological scientific "2012 Golden Globe" Award.
The event was held to honor young talents for their outstanding achievements in science and technology, mainly in information technology (IT) and telecommunications, medicine and pharmaceutical, biological and environment technologies. Most of the individuals praised had recorded outstanding achievements such as winning international medals or developing scientific and technological solutions which had received coverage in the international press. Ten individuals received Golden Globe awards for their highly applicable inventions.
- Doctor Vu Tat Thang (born in 1979) who works at the Institute of Information Technology, under the Vietnamese Academy of Science and Technology was the author of the State-level Viettalk Vietnamese voice recognition software project, which was integrated into the Windows computer operating system to provide help to the visually impaired. It was integrated into the VINAS system which transmits online newspapers as audio.
- Robot maker Ho Vinh Hoang (Born in 1981), General Director and Chairman of Tosy Robotics Joint Stock Company. He created the TOPIO robot introduced at the IREX largest international robot exhibition in Tokyo, Japan and TOSY flying disc which was granted a patent in the Republic of Korea, Vietnam and China. TOSY Robotics won a world record for the longest running mechanical spinning top.
- Doctor Vu Duy Hai (born in 1979) working at Communication Electronic Institute (Hanoi University of Science and Technology) created a filter and blood line system for reuse in artificial kidney treatment.. After two years of experimental research at Bach Mai Hospital and Ha Tinh General Hospital, the reuse efficiency of the system increased by six to eight times and met safety and hygiene standards. This successful work is forecast to make major progress in kidney disease treatment in Vietnam.
Doctor Pham Van Quan (born in 1979), a lecturer at Hanoi Architecture University who is one of the world's top 20 young scientists to win the Green Talent prize and was honored in Germany for his Energy Saving Solutions to Reduce the Negative Effects of Climate Change project.
The youngest candidate to receive the Golden Globe Award was Nguyen Huu Thanh (born in 1994) from Le Quy Don Secondary School, Da Nang City. He recently won a bronze medal at the International Olympiad in Informatics.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan said globalization and competition among nations are competition in intelligence and brainpower, shown through the quality of a country's human resources and science and technology standards.
Therefore, the sixth meeting of the 11th Communist Party of Vietnam's Central Committee continued to underline that scientific and technological development was Vietnam's top priority and also an important motive force in the country's modernization./.
