ISO Regional Seminar and Training of Trainers on Energy Management Systems and ISO 50001
A 5-day event “ISO Regional Seminar and Training of Trainers on Energy Management Systems and ISO 50001” for participants in Asia and South East Asia countries, has been organized from 04-08 June 2012 in Ha Noi by the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality - STAMEQ.

This is based on the request for Technical Assistance and Training of STAMEQ submitted to ISO Central Secretariat and under the ISO Action Plan for Developing Countries 2011-2015.

The event is aimed to raise awareness and understanding among authorities and industry in Asia and South East Asia countries about energy management and energy efficiency standards, existing best practices, implications and potential impact of the ISO 50001 Energy Management standard and its requisites; enhance the local capacity of national standards bodies of providing training on the standard in each country; and provide a platform for specialists from industry, government and academia in the region to share experiences and discuss issues related to the implementation of energy management and the ISO 50001 standard.

At the opening of Seminar and Training, Mr. Tran Van Vinh, Deputy Director General of STAMEQ said: “In most developing countries mainly fossil energy sources such as coal, oil, gas currently being used, whereas this energy source gradually running exhausted. On the other hand, the significant use of fossil energy sources has released into the environment a huge amount of greenhouse gas emissions, causing environmental pollution, the greenhouse effect and increasing obviously climate change. Thus, energy management and efficiency saving have become global challenges not only for policy makers but also for businesses, particularly in the context of rising energy prices and energy expenditures becoming major burden for businesses”….
